Our Story
Richard Hardy stepped out from a successful career and full time employment to set up Open Health & Safety with a vision of running his own health and safety consultancy and training business, capable of delivering consultancy support to both construction and manufacturing clients of all sizes.

Richard's career started in Highway Design and Project Management, working for a multinational engineering consultancy in the midlands, after graduating Loughborough University in 2000 with a degree in Civil Engineering. With site based roles on highway schemes also came necessary health and safety training, NEBOSH certificate qualifications in occupational health and construction then followed in 2002. Fast forward 10 years and he was working as a Safety Manager for a specialist contractor, that also ran their own manufacturing base to deliver curtain walling and cladding systems for their Tier 1 contractor clients. With the NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety now under under his belt and with the arrival of children came a relocation to the South Coast. This where he gained first experience as a health and safety consultant and CITB safety trainer, working for a private safety consultancy with over 200 clients across all industries. Finally came a move to regional SME Principal Contractor, working for over 8 years as their HSEQ manager, with a team of safety advisors. A successful contractor managing considerable growth while delivering over £50M of work a year across the South West, with projects across a range of sectors including industrial, commercial, retail, highways, utilities, education, defence and energy for private and local authority clients.
